ANMS-Ironwood Faculty Development Award

Deadline: October 9, 2026 (midnight EDT)

Eligibility: (All three criteria below must be met to be eligible)

1. Faculty: No current or previous Federal funding except F or T grant series.
2. ANMS Member at time of application
3. Attend 2027 ANMS Meeting in Los Angeles, California (August 6-8, 2027)

This award is to help support the development of faculty with underrepresentation in the field of neurogastroenterology. The award is open to all current ANMS members who meet the eligibility criteria above.

The award funds can be used for supplies, equipment, salary support for personnel, not the PI, and travel to present data generated during the tenure of ANMS research grant and to complete research projects and/or professional development. Overhead costs and/or indirect costs are not allowed.

The recipient must attend the 2027 Annual ANMS meeting (August 6-8, 2027 in Los Angeles, California) to receive the award. The award will fund 1 grant for $20,000 for a duration of one year.

Applicant agrees to provide written and electronic 1-page summary of benefits within 1 month of completing the award period and to return any unused funds to ANMS.

Applications missing any of these documents will not be considered.

Project Proposal Document Details (Document #1)

Please describe how you intend to use the awarded funds. Funding will be awarded primarily based on the merits of the proposed research project, which should be the main focus of the application. Applications without a defined research project will not be considered. If necessary, funds may also be used for professional development activities, such as a Master’s Program in Clinical Research. In such cases, the applicant should also justify how the proposed activity will measurably advance their career and facilitate scientific discovery.

1. Research Project
   This should be described using single-spaced, Arial size 11 font.
   – Abstract (250 words)
   – Specific Aims (one page)
   – Background
   – Methods
   – Investigators
   – Potential Pitfalls
   – Future Directions
   Up to 4 pages should be devoted to Background, Methods, Investigators, Potential Pitfalls, and Future Directions. This page limit does not include references. The Investigators section should describe the mentorship team and specify the overlap between the research project and the mentor’s current research activities. For ongoing or incomplete projects, applicants should indicate what has been completed and what remains to be done.
2. Professional Development Activity (if applicable, half page)
   Describe the activity and its relevance to the research project and/or the applicant’s future career.
3. Career Journey (half page)
   Please include a personal narrative outlining the applicant’s career path and “distance travelled,” including any challenges faced in reaching their current stage.
4. Career Impact (half page)
   Explain how the grant will advance the applicant’s career in Neurogastroenterology and Motility, and how it may enhance their prospects for academic promotion.
5. Budget (half page)
   Only direct expenses should be included in the budget, with an accompanying justification.
