Instructions for Authors
- Type the abstract in 10 point Times New Roman. The title, authors, and affiliation must be included. Simple graphs and tables may be included if they fit within the template. The size of the template is 6.5 inches wide x 5.28 inches high (portrait mode). The page margins are top, right, and left 0.25 inches and bottom 0.29 inches. Total words: about 403. Total characters with spaces: about 2,837.
- Title: The title should be brief, clearly indicating the nature of the study. Type in bold and sentence case.
- Authors: State all authors' initials and last names only. Italicize the presenting author's name.
- Affiliation: List institutional affiliations, city, and state, separated by a semicolon (;). The following symbols *, †, and ‡ may be used to denote more than one affiliation.
Example:
The joint international meeting will be held in Boston, Massachusetts in 2010. M Camilleri,* J Galligan.† *Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN; †Michigan State, Lansing, MI.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Electronic Submission
Abstracts must be submitted electronically.
- Click on the link above to submit your abstract.
- On the screen that appears you must create a new account unless you have submitted an abstract to a previous meeting (ie, Boston 2006, Chicago 2009), in which case you may already have an account and may log on as an Existing User. Log in using your e-mail address and password. Once logged in, click on Submit Abstract. This will take you to Continuing Medical Education Disclosure Form. This is a REQUIRED document that must be completed in its entirety before proceeding. Fill out the form as instructed. Provide information for each coauthor listed on the abstract as well as your own information. For each coauthor you must indicate how you received their information (ie., e-mail, phone, etc). Check the appropriate box. When the form is complete, click Submit. On the next screen you will see the message "Your CME information has been received successfully". You will also see a link to continue the abstract submission process.
- Complete the Submission Form. Note, if you wish to present your abstract as a poster, choose the Poster Only option. On completion of this form continue to the next screen and complete the information on your coauthors. Note, abstract submission is on next screen.
- There are two submission options: 1. download the preformatted Microsoft Word template or 2. upload an existing abstract document that meets the size requirements. Note, the title, authors, and affiliation must be included in the uploaded abstract document.
- If you use the preformatted Microsoft Word template, download the template to your hard drive, paste your abstract inside it, and save it. When you open this template, display it in the Print Layout mode (under View) to ensure that the correct formatting has been maintained. If you have already typed your abstract, you may copy and paste it into the template. IMPORTANT: Font must be 10 pt Times New Roman. The abstract must fit within the template on one page or it will be considered a non-submission. The template is 6.5 inches wide x 5.28 inches high (portrait mode). The margins are top, right, and left 0.25 inches and bottom 0.29 inches. Your Microsoft Word document must be saved in Word 97-2003 for Windows (Word 98-2004 for Mac), otherwise it may not upload correctly.
- Click Browse to select the abstract document that you have created and click Upload to attach your abstract document to the submission. Please type Greek letters and mathematical symbols as you would in any Microsoft Word document. Special coding is not required, nor do they need to be spelled out.
- You will receive the message "Your abstract has been successfully uploaded". Click the link to Continue. The next screen is a confirmation of what you have submitted. Review for accuracy and either go Back to make revisions or click Continue. When you click Continue, you will receive a message that your abstract submission form has been accepted. Print this page as a confirmation of your submission.
Previous Presentation of an Abstract
If at the time of the abstract submission deadline the content of the abstract has been published either electronically or in print as a full paper, it is NOT eligible to be submitted as an abstract. The principal author affirms that the material herein will not have been previously published either electronically or in print as a full paper by March 3, 2010.
Conflict of Interest
If the research was partially or fully funded by a proprietary organization (e.g., a pharmaceutical or device manufacturer), a statement to that effect must be included at the bottom of the body of the abstract. For example: "This research was funded in part by ...".
Young Investigator Travel Awards
A limited number of travel awards will be provided to those persons submitting abstracts. These awards will help defray the costs of attending the meeting. Applicants need to be less than five years from obtaining their degree. Both basic science and clinical investigators will be eligible, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in the early stages of an independent career. Award criteria will be based on career status and the scientific quality of the applicant's abstract. Please check the box on the on-line submission form indicating that you wish to be considered for a Young Investigator Travel Award. Please note, registrants may receive only one travel award for this meeting.
Continuing Medical Education Disclosure
The CME requirements stipulate that for every abstract submitted, the submitting author must complete a CME Disclosure Form on behalf of all coauthors listed on the abstract (on one form). When you log in you will see the CME Disclosure Form and the questions that need to be answered on behalf of all coauthors and you will need to fill out the form accordingly.
